About Tetra Hook
Tetra Hook is a fishing guide site for beginners and experienced anglers. Since 2019 we have published gear buying guides, techniques, species guides, knots, and state-by-state fishing licence and regulation guides, with one goal: helping you spend less time guessing and more time catching fish.
Who runs Tetra Hook
I’m K. M. Ehsan, the founder of Tetra Hook. I grew up fishing with my dad, mostly on the Red Sea, where we went out almost every night. We fished with rods, with nets and sometimes with our bare hands, and over the years we learned to read the water and be in the right place at the right time. I have more than 20 years of fishing experience.
Fishing gear has changed a lot since then, and it has made fishing easier. But I kept meeting newcomers who struggled, caught nothing and gave up before they discovered how rewarding fishing can be. So I started fishing clubs and community meetups in my own country, and then this site, to share what I have learned with anglers everywhere.
I publish the gear guides on this site under the pen name Jake Harlow. It is the same person: when you see “By Jake Harlow”, that guide was researched and written by me.
How we research our gear guides
We want you to trust our recommendations, so here is exactly how our buying guides are made:
- Researched, not lab-tested. We do not claim to have tested every product in every guide. We compare products using manufacturer specifications, guidance from fisheries agencies and experienced anglers’ published advice, and patterns in verified buyer reviews, and we say so in each guide.
- Only products you can buy. We check that every product we recommend is actually available when we publish or update a guide. If popular products are out of stock, we leave them out and tell you why, even if that makes a list short.
- Kept up to date. Products change, sell out and get replaced. We recheck our guides regularly and show the date of the last update at the top of each one.
- Honest photos. We use freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons, credited under each image, or our own photos. We do not copy other sites’ or suppliers’ images.
- Clear about what we do not know. Where a product is new or has few reviews, we say so.
How Tetra Hook makes money
Tetra Hook is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases: when you buy through a “Check price on Amazon” button, we may earn a small commission. It never changes the price you pay. Read our full disclosure and privacy policy.
